Grey Coverage & Grey Blending

Soft, blended grey coverage with highlighted brunette color
A soft, blended grey look — highlights woven through rather than one flat color

Grey Coverage & Grey Blending

Two ways to cover grey — full and even, or soft and low-maintenance.

Whether red, copper, or brunette is calling you, grey coverage is something we'll talk through together at your consultation. There isn't one right answer — there's what fits your hair, your maintenance rhythm, and your life. My hope is always that your color helps you feel seen and cared for, on the outside and the inside both.

Why grey coverage isn't one-size-fits-all

Most people think "covering grey" means one thing, and there's a gentle truth behind why that's confusing: there are actually two different approaches, and they give you very different results — and very different maintenance. Picking the wrong one for your life is what leaves people frustrated with regrowth lines or color that feels flatter than they wanted. Tend to that distinction early, and everything else about your color gets easier.

Two ways to cover grey

Full coverage means every grey hair on your head is covered to the same exact level, all across the board. It's even, it's complete, and it's the most traditional way to cover grey — consistent, with no variation from strand to strand.

Grey blending covers up to about 70% of your grey hairs, and every hair that's covered still gets color — just not all at the same level. Hairs that start lighter are taken about five levels down; hairs that start darker are taken the same five levels down. The result is a soft, blended, almost highlighted look, where color and natural grey move together instead of creating one flat line. Because the coverage isn't uniform, regrowth is far gentler on the eye — there's no sharp demarcation waiting to show up at the root. That's what lets a lot of my guests stretch further between visits than they could with full coverage.

What this isn't

Grey blending here is not a silver or grey transition service. I don't help guests stop coloring and grow out their natural grey by lifting or bleaching out existing color to match incoming grey roots. If that's what you're picturing, this isn't the service — and it's worth knowing that going in, so we start from the same page.

Red, copper, or brunette? This applies either way

Grey coverage isn't its own color — it's a decision layered into whatever you're already getting. Full coverage or blending both work beautifully underneath rich reds and coppers or dimensional brunette; the choice is about how much uniformity you want and how much time you want between visits, not about which color family you're in. If you haven't settled on your base color yet, the Reds & Coppers and Brunette pages are the place to start — this page is here for when you're ready to talk through the grey piece.

What your first visit feels like

We begin with a real conversation — no rushing — so I understand your hair, your grey pattern, and your life before I ever reach for a formula. With a warm latte, sparkling water, or a glass of wine in hand, we look at where you'd love to go, and whether full coverage or blending fits you better. I prep your hair with a treatment that repairs as it works and gently lifts away the buildup that can dull your color. Then I create your color by hand, the technique chosen just for you.

From there you settle into what I call the living room — soft lighting, something lovely on the screen, your drink and a little snack — while your color develops. At the bowl, you recline for a custom cleanse, a nourishing treatment, and toning if you need it. Then we cut, style, and I share the little tips to help you keep this feeling at home. We gather your take-home favorites, and we rebook so you're always looked after. Unhurried, one chair, entirely yours.

What it's worth

This was never meant to be the lowest-priced chair in town. What you're really saying yes to is time, gentle expertise, and a grey approach that actually fits your life — which is exactly why blending exists as an option, not just full coverage. Ranges and starting points live on the services menu; the heart of it is simple: caring for yourself this way gives back a little every time you catch your reflection.

Keeping it beautiful, gently

Full coverage tends to want a visit every four to six weeks to stay crisp at the root. Blending is the more forgiving of the two — many of my guests go two, three, even four months between visits, because there's no hard line waiting to show up. We'll find a rhythm that fits your life, never a rigid rule — and you'll always go home knowing exactly how to care for your color.

A turn I hold close

One of my guests, a traveling nurse, came to me after years of putting everyone else first and finally deciding it was her turn. She'd let her grey grow in and wanted to look like herself again — without a maintenance routine she'd have to fight to keep up with. We chose blending over full coverage, and because there's no hard line waiting to show up at the root, she can go a month or more between visits without anyone on shift ever knowing she'd missed one. Read the rest of her story on the Brunette page.

"Hands down the best salon experience I've ever had."

"My glamorizing session with Dean was hands down the best salon experience I've ever had. From our first virtual interaction, his expertise, kindness, and passion for healthy hair were very apparent. He heard me — really heard me — regarding my concerns with previously botched highlights, and understood my vision for creating a subtle glow while repairing a lot of damage. I was absolutely a priority from beginning to end, extremely comfortable, and felt so spoiled by him. He's created a beautiful, welcoming atmosphere for his clients to show up, be pampered, and walk out feeling even more fabulous than when they walked in."
