What each ingredient is doing:

• Organic Gentian (Gentiana lutea) — supports even tone across the lengths and gives antioxidant defense against the environmental stress that dulls blonde and grey.
• Ethical Peach Kernel Extract (Prunus persica) — softens and conditions. This counterbalances a toning shampoo's tendency to dry hair out, which is why blonde and grey stay supple rather than turning wiry.
• Acid Violet 43 — the violet pigment. This is what actually cancels the yellow. The botanicals brighten; the violet neutralizes. It does both, each doing a different job.

Apply to wet hair and lather thoroughly. Leave on for 2 minutes, then rinse and follow with the Bluemoon Hair Mask. Use weekly, or as often as your tone needs it.

A few things worth knowing:

• Don't use it every wash. Once or twice a week is tone maintenance; daily use can push hair cool or dull it. Alternate with a regular shampoo.
• Two minutes is enough. Leaving it longer doesn't tone harder, and porous hair can grab too much.
• Porous or very light hair takes pigment faster. If you're new to it, start with one minute and build up.
• Always follow with the mask or a conditioner. Toning opens the cuticle; the mask closes it back down.
